Make a vertical 9:16 AI video for Reels, TikTok or Shorts from a text prompt: pick the shape, the model and the length. Steps, prompts and real prices.

· 5 min read · Video studio

A vertical 9:16 clip made with Seedance 2.0 from a text prompt: a girl in a white dress surfs a sea of pink clouds at sunset, the camera flying alongside. One subject, one action, framed for a phone screen.

To make a vertical AI video for Reels or TikTok, open the Video studio, write the shot in the Prompt, click the 9:16 shape button, pick a Duration of 5 or 10 seconds and press Generate Video. The clip comes out tall, the shape Reels, TikTok and Shorts play full screen, so there is nothing to crop afterwards. A 5 second clip on Seedance 1.5 Pro, the studio default, costs 25 credits at 720p.

Most bad vertical clips are wide shots squeezed into a tall frame. This guide covers how to write a prompt for a phone screen, which model to pick for sound or for cost, and how to make several clips into one post.

What you need

  • An idea for one shot that reads on a phone: one subject, close enough to fill the frame top to bottom.
  • Optional: a picture to start from. It should already be tall, since a start frame sets the framing. If it shows a real person, use your own photo or one you have their permission to use.
  • A Kinoseed account and some credits. Video starts with a plan; the $10 Basic plan (500 credits a month) covers 20 five second Seedance 1.5 Pro clips at 25 credits each.

Step by step

  1. 1

Open the Video studio and pick a Model

The Model card shows Seedance 1.5 Pro by default, the cheapest way to try an idea. Click it to switch: Wan 3.0 for sound at a low price, Kling 3.0 for people in motion, or Seedance 2.5 for the final take. All of Seedance 1.5 Pro, Wan 3.0, Kling 3.0 or Seedance 2.5 shoot 9:16 from text.

  2. 2

    Click the 9:16 shape

The row of shape buttons sits above Resolution. Hover one to read its ratio, and click the tall one, 9:16. Do this before you write the prompt, so you picture the shot tall from the start.

  3. 3

Write the Prompt for a tall frame

Put the subject in the middle and close: head to waist for a person, the whole product filling the frame. Prefer up and down movement, like a crane up, a figure walking toward the camera or something falling, over wide pans that need width. Name the light and one camera move.

  4. 4

    Set Resolution and Duration

Feeds play short clips, so 5 seconds is usually enough and costs half of 10. On Wan 3.0, 5 seconds at 720p is 95 credits and 10 seconds 190. The price is on the button before you press it.

  5. 5

    Press Generate Video and download

The clip lands in the feed beside the controls. Download it and post it as it is, or put several clips together in your editor. There is no watermark, and a failed run is refunded automatically.

Prompts to copy

Paste any of these into Video studio as a starting point, then change the details to fit your photo.

Product, crane up

Vertical shot of a tall glass bottle of olive oil on a stone kitchen counter, a branch of olives beside it. The camera cranes slowly up from the base of the bottle to the cork. Warm morning light, shallow depth of field.

Person walking toward camera

Vertical shot of a young man in a yellow raincoat walking toward the camera down a narrow rainy alley at night, neon signs reflected in the puddles. Slow push in. Cinematic, light rain.

Food close-up

Vertical overhead close-up of honey being drizzled onto a stack of pancakes, butter melting on top. Locked-off camera. Soft daylight, rich colour, slow motion.

Nature, falling motion

Vertical shot of autumn leaves drifting down past the camera in a quiet forest, sunbeams through the trees behind. The camera tilts down slowly to a mossy path. Calm, golden light.

Which model, and what a vertical clip costs

Seedance 1.5 Pro: 25 credits for 5 seconds at 720p, 50 with Sound switched on. Wan 3.0: 95 credits for 5 seconds at 720p, with sound generated as part of the price. Kling 3.0: 110 for 5 seconds, 160 with Sound. Seedance 2.5: 430 for 5 seconds at 720p, sound included.

Draft on the cheapest one that does the job, then run the keeper on the model you want. Every plan includes every model; see pricing.

Making a longer Reel from several clips

Each run is one shot, up to 10 seconds. For a longer post, make three or four clips with the same light and style words in every prompt, then cut them together in your phone's editor or in CapCut.

To join two shots with a designed transition instead of a hard cut, use Transitions. For a product ad built from a store link, URL to Ad makes a vertical cut for you.

Tips for better results

  • Pick 9:16 first. A start frame or a prompt written for a wide shot fights the tall frame.
  • Keep the subject in the middle of the frame. Apps put captions, buttons and the caption bar along the edges and the bottom.
  • Start the motion in the first second. A slow fade-in loses people who are scrolling.
  • Draft cheap: 25 credits on Seedance 1.5 Pro, then the final take on Wan 3.0, Kling 3.0 or Seedance 2.5.
  • To animate a picture you already have, see how to turn an image into a video. Make the picture tall first.

Frequently asked questions

What aspect ratio is a Reel or a TikTok?

Vertical 9:16, the shape of a phone screen held upright. In the Video studio it is one of the shape buttons, and the clip comes out in that shape, so there is no crop.

How long can an AI video be?

One run is one shot. Wan 3.0 runs 5 or 10 seconds, Kling 3.0 5 or 10 and Seedance 2.5 4, 5, 8 or 10. For a longer post, make several clips and join them in an editor.

Can the clip have sound?

Yes. Wan 3.0 and Seedance 2.5 generate sound with the picture as part of the price. On Seedance 1.5 Pro and Kling 3.0 you switch Sound on, which costs more. Leave it off if you will add music in the app.

What does one vertical clip cost?

Video starts with a plan. A 5 second clip at 720p costs 25 credits on Seedance 1.5 Pro and 95 on Wan 3.0. The exact price is on the Generate Video button before you run it.

Can I put a real person in it?

Only with their permission. Use your own photo or one the person agreed to, and don't use it to make someone appear to say or do something they did not.

Try it on your own shot.
