Google Veo 3.1 is Google's video model, known for making speech, effects and music together with the picture. This guide covers its settings, how to prompt dialogue, what each clip costs, and when Google Veo 3.1 Fast or Google Veo 3.1 Lite is the better buy.
What you need
- An idea for one shot, and the line of dialogue if someone speaks.
- If the start frame shows a real person, use your own photo or one that person agreed to have animated.
- A Kinoseed account with credits. Video starts with a plan; the $10 Basic plan (500 credits a month) covers 3 silent 4 second clips at 1080p.
Step by step
- 1
Open the Video studio and choose Google Veo 3.1
The Model card shows Seedance 1.5 Pro, the default. Click it and pick Google Veo 3.1. The Google Veo 3.1 model page opens the studio with it already selected.
- 2
Write the shot, or add a Start frame
Google Veo 3.1 works from the Prompt alone. To fix the first shot, drop a picture into Start frame; the clip begins on it and the model invents the motion. Google Veo 3.1 takes a start frame but no end frame.
- 3
Pick the shape, Resolution and Duration
Choose 16:9 or 9:16 with the shape buttons (9:16 for Reels, Shorts and TikTok), 720p, 1080p or 4k under Resolution and 4, 6 or 8 seconds under Duration. 720p and 1080p cost the same, so pick 1080p; 4k costs more. The price on the button moves with each choice.
- 4
Tick Sound for speech and effects
Sound is what most people come to Google Veo 3.1 for. With it ticked the clip has voices, effects and ambience made with the picture: 290 credits for 4 seconds at 1080p, against 150 silent. Leave it off for clips you will score yourself.
- 5
Press Generate Video
The price is on the button before you press it. The clip lands in the feed beside the controls, ready to download, with no watermark, and a failed run is refunded automatically.
Prompts to copy
Paste any of these into Video studio as a starting point, then change the details to fit your photo.
Dialogue, Sound on
A barista in a busy cafe looks up at the camera and says: "Your usual? It's on the counter." Espresso machine hissing, low chatter behind. Medium shot, camera still.
Ambient scene, Sound on
Rain on a tin roof over a night market, lanterns swaying, a vendor flipping noodles in a wok with a loud sizzle. Slow dolly left past the stalls.
Silent product shot
A wristwatch on black velvet, a thin beam of light sweeping across the dial. Macro, slow push in. No people.
What Google Veo 3.1 costs
Silent: 150 credits for 4 seconds at 720p, 290 for 8 seconds at 1080p, 600 for 8 seconds at 4k. With Sound: 290 for 4 seconds at 1080p, 600 for 8 seconds at 1080p, 900 for 8 seconds at 4k. Each figure is what the Generate Video button shows.
Google Veo 3.1 Fast is in the same Model list at 75 credits for 4 seconds at 720p, 110 with Sound. Google Veo 3.1 Lite animates a start image only, from 25 credits for 4 seconds. See Veo 3.1 vs Veo 3.1 Lite and pricing.
How to prompt speech
Put the spoken words in quotes and say who says them: "The old man leans in and whispers: 'They never found it.'" Keep a line short enough to say in the clip's length; one sentence fits in 4 to 6 seconds. Name the background sound in a few words so the model does not invent music over the dialogue.
For a talking clip of a specific face, start from that person's photo in Start frame, with their consent. To make a photo say an exact recording instead, use Lip Sync.
